CurtainTM
e-locker |
|
|
|
Q1: |
Can we use Curtain e-locker when offline? |
|
Ans: |
Yes, you could
still access Protected Directory even you are offline. When security manager
defines policies in Central Administrator, policies will be distributed to all
Curtain Clients. The policies will be stored in Curtain Clients locally.
Therefore, workstations are still under Curtain's protection even they are
offline. However, if you want to access files in server, you must be connected
to your corporate network. |
|
|
Q2: |
How about Notebook users? Can they use Curtain? |
|
Ans: |
Yes, notebook users can access files in server when they are connected to corporate network. If they want to use those files offline, they could download files to the notebook through Curtain system. (If file type is configured as Confidential, the file will be automatically downloaded to user's Protected Directory.) |
|
|
Q3: |
Can files be
copied to Protected Directory when workstation is offline? |
|
Ans: |
Yes, the security
control is the same even a workstation is offline. Files still can be copied to
Protected Directory, but it is not allowed to copy or move files out of
Protected Directory without appropriate rights. |
|
|
Q4: |
How can I distribute a protected file to others? Can I distribute it through email? |
|
Ans: |
Your colleagues
could directly access servers' files if they have appropriate access rights. If you want to share protected files with external users, you must
be granted access right to do so. |
|
|
Q5: |
Can Curtain control
print-screen? |
|
Ans: |
Yes, Curtain can control
users to print-screen. |
|
|
Q6: |
Can Curtain
block screen capturing tools? |
|
Ans: |
Curtain allows
security manager to disable users’ Print-Screen buttons. However, we do not
guarantee it can block all screen capturing tools. If companies want to raise
the security control level, we recommend they should use Curtain e-locker
together with Windows Policies. Security manager should not allow users to
install third parties applications in their workstations. |
|
|
Q7: |
Can users bypass Windows
OS to copy files from Protected Directory to other devices? |
|
Ans: |
Curtain provides
protection in disk level. Data inside Protected Directory of users’ workstations
is also encrypted. The encryption algorithm used is AES 256-bit. Since data is
encrypted and stored in hard disk, data inside Protected Directory is still safe
even data is copied to other devices in disk-level.
Of course, if user is granted appropriate rights, the user can copy files from
Protected Directory to other devices. |
|
|
Q8: |
We are storing files in
Document Management System. Can Curtain work in our existing environment? |
|
Ans: |
Yes, Curtain has
SDK for developers to integrate their systems with Curtain, so that Curtain can
work with any server-side applications. Company can use Document Management
System to manage files systematically. When user reads or modifies a file, the
file will be automatically downloaded to user's workstation and protected by
Curtain. |
|
|
Q9: |
We are using Linux Server
for file sharing. Can Curtain work with Linux Server? |
|
Ans: |
Yes, Curtain can work with
Linux File Server. |
|
|
Q10: |
Does Curtain support
Chinese? |
|
Ans: |
Curtain uses
Unicode to handle filename, so that it supports filename in any languages. For
user interface of Central Administrator and Curtain Client, only English version
is available now. Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese will be launched at
the end of 2005. And, we will cover other languages soon. |
|
|
Q11: |
Can Curtain run on Windows
95/98 platform? |
|
Ans: |
No, Curtain does not support
Windows 95/98. To run Curtain e-locker, the workstation must be Windows NT,
Windows 2000, Windows XP
or Windows 2003. |
|
|
Q12: |
How does
Central Administrator recognize Curtain Clients? by MAC address, IP or NetBIOS
name? |
|
Ans: |
Central
Administrator recognizes a Curtain Client by hostname and a token. The token is
randomly created when Curtain Client has been installed. Therefore, Curtain
Client is identified by Central Administrator in a very secured way. |
|
|
Q13: |
What should I
do if Central Administrator has to be re-installed? |
|
Ans: |
If the machine
(in which Central Admin is installed) is going to be reinstalled with the same
hostname, system administrator only needs to backup Configuration files before
reinstallation. After reinstallation, administrator only needs to restore those
configuration files.
If the machine is going to be reinstalled with a new hostname or Central
Administrator will be migrated to another machine, system administrator needs to
follow Migration Procedures. |
|
|
Q14: |
What should I
do if Curtain Client has to be re-installed? |
|
Ans: |
When you want to
reinstall your workstation, you should upload files in Protected Directory to
server first (if you want to keep those files). Protected Directory is like a
common folder. When you format your hard disk, it will be deleted. |
|
|
Q15: |
Will Curtain
affect backup activities in server? |
|
Ans: |
No, Curtain will
not affect backup activities in server. Since Curtain does not encrypt data in
server-side, system administrator can backup data in server as usual. |
